A Neapolitan look

open studio - 1 (1)

When I saw today’s model for the open studio group, I was quick to decide that the model looks like a character from a novel I have been reading this past week or so.  I just finished My Brilliant Friend, the first of the four Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante, and I imagine that the character Lila may have looked very much like today’s model. The model had wonderful facial expressions that included suspicious scrutiny, resentment, brooding, and pride.  The narrator in the Neapolitan novels often described how Lila’s eyes narrowed as she tilted her head back and stared at someone and this is what I saw in this pose. I limited the colors and used them sparingly so as to keep attention on the eyes.
