A Coffee Shop Kind of Day

image.jpeg

The winter storm is easing, but today was still a great day to sit indoors, sip coffee and sketch. Since people are my favorite subjects to draw I headed off to one of the many university coffee shops. I drew this young man several times because I was trying to capture his worried expression and because he sat still and stayed in the coffee shop for a long time.

It was a misty day and I think it influenced me to keep my work muted. I lightly used three colors, perylene maroon, cerulean blue and sepia. For the line work I used a soluble graphic pencil, keeping it dry for a light touch on the figures in the background.
