Playing Is Serious Work

Playing Is Serious Work

The grandson of our host here in Odense came over for the morning. He is a beautiful child of nearly two years. I noticed how serious he was as he went about the work of playing. He had a plan and enlisted his adoring family in carrying it out.

One of my goals is to tell a story with image and and I wanted to convey how this little boy showed his thinking process with his hands and eyes. It seemed to me that his steady gaze, arm and hand positions, and  deliberate way of interacting with his fire truck demonstrated the body language of thinking for a near two-year-old.

This is a Procreate sketch on my iPad. I resized four sketches of the boy and placed them all on the same sheet.
