The sky was dripping at Limantour Estuary, not raining, but so heavy with mist that it left its marks as I painted the sky and parts of the lagoon. I liked the effect and later tried to add more with a spray bottle, but it did not work.

Here is another sketch of Tomales Bay. I saw a young woman walking along the shore, and there was something about her body language that showed how she loved the Bay. I wanted to capture that feeling in this sketch.

We got to Tomales Bay early this morning, and the early light had just begun to illuminate the sky, hills, and water. It was low tide, and the mud flats were full of birds feasting on its offerings.

I am near Tomales Bay painting with my cousin. This afternoon, we went to the Cypress Tree Tunnel, a long avenue of Monterey cypress trees set against coastal scrub. It is also a popular location for taking photographs of newlyweds, and I was happy to put a young couple into this sketch.

This scene, set up by a friend, reminded me that fall colors are nearing. It felt cozy, with the light bouncing off the platter and the deep shadows.

Today’s Tuesday Night Still-life group set-up was a simple stalk of Naked lady Lillies and a candle stick.

Our Thursday Plein air group met at Tuna Harbor Park in San Diego. The park opens onto the San Diego Harbor and looks out on the USS Midway, once an active aircraft carrier, now a museum ship.
I liked the contrast of the ship’s hull to the small vessels on the bay, especially to this small yellow boat.
