Communicating a story through image is one of my major goals for this blog. This sketch tells the story of a loyal dog guarding his household. Luke’s alert head and his choice of a location where he can monitor the front door and the activity on the street emphasis his commitment to keeping us safe. Luke also enjoys keeping an eye on things while I garden or sketch. He was the perfect model today as I sketched landscapes.

As I sketched I continued to try out options for foliage and stonework today. I am still grappling with how much detail I should put into the different elements of the sketch. I think I overdid the detail in the stonework and door.
