View of the Dead Sea from Masada

Today we visited a kibbutz for the day, taking lots of pictures but not getting any sketches.

This is a sketch I began on the Masada trip and finished this evening. The view is from the top of Masada looking out to the Dead Sea and the Jordan Mountains. There are many challenges to this sketch, including conveying the distance in the strong lighting conditions and absence of vegetation, and defining the more organized rocks of the ruins from the rocks on the mountainsides.

This is a pen and watercolor sketch.
