First Fire of the Season
It was cool enough this evening to have a fire, our first of the season. I thought it would be an easy sketch but capturing a flickering fire and the shapes of the furniture in the mixed lighting was tricky. After three terrible sketches, I got out my pastels and drew on top of the best sketch. Adding dark rich color to the couch and fireplace helped quite a bit. I may come back to this composition soon.
You captured the coziness and warmth!

Oh ho – Sarah! This lovely piece is full of dark, rich, yummy colors. The darks around the flames in the fireplace make the lights so Fire-bright! The couch is exquisite, the blanket on the couch softly defined and even the table is rich with color, and the book bright. This is one of my favorites!!!

Thank you Sheila, for your comments! This morning I am wondering if I should have made the blanket more violet so that it does not compete with the fire?
