Kwaay Paay Peak above the Sycamores

Sketch of Kwaay Paay Peak above the Sycamores by Sarah Sullivan

Kwaay Paay Peak above the Sycamores

It has been a few years since I visited the Padre Dam area of Mission Trails Park but now that I am reminded of its beauty I will go back more often.

Sometimes I start the day by doing several quick sketches before beginning a longer piece. This is one of those, probably a ten-minute sketch, and my favorite of the day. I like its rough and abstract look, especially on the face of the peak.

Very different feel and I agree, I love the rock face and the contrast with the trees

LOVE the brush marks on the surface of the peaks, SO effectively done. The shadow side of the Peak with the introduction of subtle green into it is very integrating, the light/yellow of the focal trees – along with the DARKS at the upper edge of the trees really make them pop…….. yet remain integrated. Marvelous JOYFUL work, Sarah!

I also like how the brush strokes suggest the texture of the sandstone cliffs.
