At the Cactus Garden
Balboa Park in San Diego has a rich variety of specialty gardens, including a gorgeous cactus garden, which is where I painted this morning. The big shapes were striking, and I worked to capture them with long brushstrokes.
This is a 12 X 12-inch gouache sketch.
Feels like it’s coming to get you!

Love your brush strokes and leading lines. Especially the bright small cactus in lower left and the lines to the right of it leading my eye into this fabulous painting. Your cactus colors are rich, varied and natural. There is such grace of line and movement Sarah and the blue sky and lovely violet background add what it was begging for, some cool, cool serenity………. wonderful!!!

I love the boldness and clarity of your painting style. Thanks for sharing! I have a poetry blog here on WordPress and today’s poem is a lighthearted one about cacti in case you have time to look? Have a sunny day, Sam 🙂

Thank you Sam, I enjoyed your poem, post, and sense of wonder. I don’t know the name of the cactus in your photo but it is wonderfully abundant in San Diego and I get a kick out of it too. Have you looked at this site https://tsprevey.wordpress.com/. There are several entries about cactus.
