My Tuesday night still-life group has made a change for the fall. We begin our weekly sessions by viewing select artwork from artists who paint in distinctive styles. Then, using a still life or photo, we attempt to evoke something of the artist while we paint for 90- minutes.
This evening, we painted under the influence of Georgia O’Keeffe, known for painting close-up views of simplified objects, often with bold colors. We each chose an object, such as this red rose, to focus closely on.

I’ve never been a fan of Georgia O’Keeffe overall but I do like the idea of getting very close to the subject so that it is abstractified. I love what you have done here, I’d know your bold style right off the bat and the rose is just so vibrant and alive. Being close to it (meaning you painted it close up) seems to intensify its characteristics. Fantastic.

Thank you Claudia, I agree that close up made the difference. I will do more of it!

I love the idea. We ere just in Arles and Saint Remy France, even visited the hospital where Van Gough was. I was inspired and painted a few things taking some cures from his style. So I love what you are doing, and the flower has such an earthy feel, much as O’Keef would possibly do, good job.

Thank you so much, Terry. And how wonderful to do this in the actual location where the artist worked.
