View From Mary’s Patio

Our Thursday group painted from the patio of one of our members. The sky in the west was heavy with clouds, and the coastal sage scrub and new greens seemed happy from our recent rains.

A decade ago, the hillside just below the cluster of homes might have been covered with the coastal scrub. Now, it is cleared and covered with low growing, fire resistant plants, in what is called a defensible space.

  1. Those clouds! Wow! I also love hearing about fresh green growth (as I look outside at 8 inches of snow on the ground and about 15 degrees F). And I am interested to hear about the different fire- retardant (?? don’t know what the term is) plants growing as opposed to what was there before.
