It was around 3 pm, and the sun’s glare reflected on the lake and through the people fishing. I especially liked the shadows that the people cast.

We had large, lovely grapes in a bowl for our Tuesday night Zoom still-life subject. I liked how the artist who set it up arranged the grapes with a gentle diagonal between the green and red grapes.

Lake Murray is part of the San Diego Mission Trails Regional Park and a great place to walk, bike, and paint. Every direction has a beautiful view, but the view looking west from the boat launch area may be my favorite.

We went up to Leo Carrillo Park in Carlsbad, north of San Diego, to paint trees. These trees have leaves year-round, but their limbs were too beautiful to hide.

It was a perfect day for watching the bay go by.

Another artist set up this week’s Tuesday night Zoom still-life, and her eye for shape and color is so strong. The persimmons overlapped the saltshaker, and the floppy yellow napkin cut diagonally across the table linens and fruit. It was fun!

I started this little sketch when I was at Lake Murray last Thursday. It was my second piece, and I only had enough time to put in the base coat. Later at home, I added details to show that it was a very windy day and that there was nothing static about the water, sky, and the children feeding the ducks.
