We are in the Boulder Colorado area for a few days. This morning I went up on the Flatirons above Boulder and admired the view. From the Flatirons, the Great Plains seem to begin at the edge of Boulder and extend on to the distant horizon. It is overwhelming and rather than capturing an exact image, I worked to understand how all the shapes and colors fit together. Now that I am back and comparing my sketch to photos, I see that my greens are too bright, more like the greens of the German Alps than of this area. Fortunately, I have a few days to try again.
This is a 12 X 12- inch gouache sketch on black paper.
Four hours further south and you could be doing a gouache in Saguache. 🙂

The SLV is actually a gorgeous place for inspiring art, but the names are just too good not to enjoy. 🙂

I looked it up and it sounds inviting… I am tempted to go but then I would miss Estes Park….

I know which I’d pick, but I’m biased. 🙂
