Along a Forest Path
I have quite a few unfinished paintings from my recent trip. I knew when I started this one, that I wouldn’t have enough time to finish it, but I did get the sweep of the road and the lean of the trees down on my paper before I left Søndersø, in Denmark. It was a little strange to look at the chalk lines on the paper and then to try and recreate the look, feelings, and colors of that afternoon.
I feel drawn by the perspective and warm colors of sunlight on the pathway and cabin.

Do you think I should have continued the black line all the way down the right side to the lower corner?

While I like it just the way it is, extending the black line to the lower right corner would anchor and balance the painting.

Thank you! Now that I am back in San Diego, it is had to believe that the forest was that green. I am getting used to our brown hills again.
