Pursuing the Dream

My husband’s young cousin was married at a beautiful ceremony Saturday evening in the Chicago area. The newlyweds have a dream and are working hard at having it all; a home with a huge yard, many children, sunsets, and a life filled with love. I wanted to show all this and more in the card I made for them. Congratulations, Dani and Chuck!

It was a sad Sunday for the Chiefs and their fans

I don’t often watch football but I was in Kansas City with a preponderance of people who love the KC Chiefs. I was delighted to sit and sketch their expressions while the Chiefs battled their rival, the Buffalo Bills. It looked good for the Chiefs initially, but as the fourth quarter neared its end, it became increasingly clear that the Chiefs would lose the game. As this tragic realization animated the expressions in the room, I tried to capture their denial, hope, and disbelief in this little sketch.

Bamboo Pathway at the Botanical Garden

We had out-of-town visitors of the gardening sort, which led to a delightful afternoon at the Encinitas Botanical Garden. The path through the tall bamboo grove is one of the garden’s highlights. We rested in the shade and appreciated the bamboo’s deep greens and undertones of blue and yellow.

San Diego Harbor and Ships

Sunday was a foggy morning, but the Urban Sketchers were in full force along the San Diego Harbor. The light was muted, beautiful, and in shades of blue, especially on the water’s surface.

The last time I painted the Coronado Bridge, I made a note to myself not to include so many of its pillars, and this time I remembered to place only three of them on my paper. I did the sky and bridge before adding the ships as I had hoped to sketch in an oversized navy vessel. Instead, I made do the smaller ship you see above. It is painted twice, the front on the left and the back on the right.
