At the Beach

Sketch of two people talking by the edge of the beach by Sarah Sullivan

At the Beach

This evening after swimming in the warm water along the Florida coast I made several quick sketches with white pastel line in a small 9 x 9 inch black paper sketchbook. Later, long after most people went to bed, I added color using mostly gouache and a bit more pastel.

I really like wandering around making simple line sketches of unsuspecting people as they interact. It is so much more likely that I can capture the motion and attitude of people if I can finish the sketch in a minute or two. I liked the cheerful interaction of these two and wanted to convey it in this sketch.
