Bavarian Cows

Sketch by Sarah Sullivan of Bavarian Cows

Bavarian Cows

Yesterday evening as we walked through the Bavarian countryside at dusk, we came across a flock of sheep. The sheep lifted their heads and stared us down and I was charmed by them. So I planned to return today with my sketchbook. However, when I arrived on the scene mid morning, the flock was in the shade at the far end of the pasture and I could not see them well enough to capture their likeness.

Fortunately, there were also cows nearby and I was able to get a few sketches of them as they grazed. I liked the lines of their necks and backs.

This is a 9 X 6 gouache sketch on black paper.
